Safety By Design,
During our life time, there may be many instances of slips and trips which may result in a person ending up in contact with the ground. Medical personal may refer to one such event as a fall, rather than a simple trip. With age comes the possibility of increased risk of additional injury, including (but not limited to):
- Anything from shoulder injury and torn muscles
- Sprains and Strains
- Dislocation and Broken Bones.
- Spinal damage.
- Head injuries – Concussion.
First Aid treatment for the above can range from Ice Pack, Splinting and calling for Emergency Response personal.
Medical conditions such as Osteoporosis (Brittle Bone Syndrome) can lead to a prolonged recover from any of the above.
My way of remembering the difference between Sprain and Strain is as follows: The T in strains reminds me of T for Tendons, which joins muscles to the bone. Sprains are the Ligaments, which joins a bone to another bone.
I think of Ligaments like a hinge on a door, the hinges have no power to move a door, but they (Ligaments) make sure the door (Joint) can only move in a set direction.
